Island Almanac is a fan site run by Kokoto. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no cookies. This page says what is processed anyway, why, and for how long. Questions and requests: legal@kokoto.app. Reports of abuse or a problem: support@kokoto.app.

Who is responsible

The controller for everything on this page is Kokoto, a Dutch sole proprietor, Van Wassenaerlaan 11, 1215 PA Hilversum, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 42082146. Privacy requests go to legal@kokoto.app.

Visiting any page

The site is hosted by mijn.host in the Netherlands. To serve a page, their servers see your IP address, browser and the page you ask for, and keep server logs under their own retention policy. Everything else the page loads, fonts included, comes from this same site. Nothing is sent to Google, Nintendo or anyone else unless you click a link to them.

What stays in your browser

Your language, light or dark theme, hemisphere and filters are remembered in your browser's local storage. On Dodo Airlines that also holds your host or visitor key, your last nickname, what you filled in when opening an island, and your sound and notification choices. The key travels with your requests, because it is how the server knows the island or the place in the queue is yours; the rest never leaves your browser. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.

Dodo Airlines: opening and visiting an island

When you open an island, the server stores the island name, your host name, your Dodo code, what is on offer (fruit, visitors, turnip price, entry) and your note. The card, names and note included, is public: everyone sees it in the list of open islands. The Dodo code is only shown to you and to visitors you let in who confirmed they are coming.

When you knock, the server stores your nickname, your message and the chat with that host. Only you and that host can read your chat. Messages the host sends to everyone at the island go to everyone still queuing or visiting.

How long. An island stays open for at most twelve hours. Fifteen minutes after it closes, the island, every request and every message are deleted. A declined request is deleted after thirty minutes. The island and host name of a closed island stay visible under “just closed” for one hour. Clean-up runs every ten minutes, and deleted rows are overwritten in the database file rather than left behind.

Your IP address. It is not stored as such. The server turns it into a hash with a random salt that is new every day (for IPv6 the hash covers your /64 network, which is what one connection usually gets). That hash is used to slow down spam, to allow one open island per connection, and for blocks: a host can block a visitor, which stops that connection knocking at that island while it is open. The salt is deleted no later than thirteen hours after its day ends; after that nobody, us included, can link a hash back to an address. Rate-limit counters are deleted after an hour, blocks with the island.

Automatic chat check. Before a chat or knock message is saved, the server checks it against word lists and patterns for contact details. A message that fails the check is not stored, and its text is not kept or logged anywhere. What is kept: the number of stopped messages on your request, deleted with the request, and running totals per kind of stop, with no text and nothing that links them to a person, which we use to improve the lists. When a connection's visits are ended three times in one day, its daily IP hash is kept out of Dodo Airlines for 24 hours and then deleted. There is no human review and no profiling: the check only decides whether one message is sent. Which word lists apply follows the language the page is shown in and the language your browser says you prefer; that setting is used for the check and not stored. A stopped message stays visible on your own screen, marked as not sent, until you reload the page; it never reaches the other person.

Chatting with strangers. The site is for adults; anyone younger uses it under a parent's supervision. The people you meet here are strangers. Keep it about the game: do not share your real name, age, where you live, or usernames for other apps. If someone makes you uncomfortable, leave, and tell us.

Reporting a problem

If you see something harmful or illegal in an island name, a note or a chat, email support@kokoto.app with the island name and roughly when. We look at every report and remove what does not belong here; if needed, island sharing can be switched off entirely. Emails you send are kept only as long as needed to handle them.

Legal basis, processors and your rights

We process this data because of our legitimate interest in running the service you ask for and keeping it free of spam and abuse (article 6(1)(f) GDPR). What is kept in your browser is either needed for a feature you use or a setting you chose. mijn.host processes data for us as hosting provider, within the EU. Nothing is sold, shared for advertising or used for profiling.

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Without accounts we cannot tell who you are, so include what helps us find it (island name, nickname, time); most of it is gone within hours anyway. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority where you live.

Mistakes and translations

This page is written with care, but if a part of it turns out to be wrong, unclear or out of date, that affects only that part; the rest remains valid, and what actually happens with your data is what counts, as described above to the best of our knowledge. Tell us at legal@kokoto.app and we will correct it. This page exists in English and Dutch; if the two differ, the Dutch version prevails. Using the site also means the terms of use apply.

Elke pagina bezoeken

De site wordt gehost door mijn.host in Nederland. Om een pagina te leveren zien hun servers je IP-adres, je browser en de pagina die je opvraagt, en ze bewaren serverlogs volgens hun eigen bewaartermijn. Al het andere dat de pagina laadt, ook de lettertypes, komt van deze site zelf. Er gaat niets naar Google, Nintendo of wie dan ook, tenzij je op een link naar hen klikt.

Wat in je browser blijft

Je taal, licht of donker thema, halfrond en filters worden onthouden in de lokale opslag van je browser. Bij Dodo Airlines staat daar ook je host- of bezoekerssleutel, je laatste bijnaam, wat je invulde bij het openen van een eiland, en je keuzes voor geluid en meldingen. De sleutel gaat mee met je verzoeken, want daaraan ziet de server dat het eiland of de plek in de rij van jou is; de rest verlaat je browser nooit. Wis je de gegevens van deze site in je browser, dan is alles weg.

Dodo Airlines: een eiland openen en bezoeken

Als je een eiland opent, bewaart de server de eilandnaam, je hostnaam, je Dodo code, wat er te halen is (fruit, bezoekers, knollenprijs, entree) en je notitie. De kaart, met namen en notitie, is openbaar: iedereen ziet hem in de lijst met open eilanden. De Dodo code zie alleen jij, en bezoekers die je binnenlaat en die bevestigen dat ze komen.

Als je aanklopt, bewaart de server je bijnaam, je bericht en de chat met die host. Alleen jij en die host kunnen je chat lezen. Berichten die de host naar iedereen stuurt, gaan naar iedereen die nog in de rij staat of op bezoek is.

Hoe lang. Een eiland is maximaal twaalf uur open. Een kwartier na het sluiten worden het eiland, alle verzoeken en alle berichten gewist. Een geweigerd verzoek wordt na een half uur gewist. De eiland- en hostnaam van een gesloten eiland blijven een uur zichtbaar onder “net gesloten”. Opruimen gebeurt elke tien minuten, en gewiste rijen worden in het databasebestand overschreven in plaats van achtergelaten.

Je IP-adres. Dat wordt niet als zodanig bewaard. De server maakt er een hash van met een willekeurig zout dat elke dag nieuw is (bij IPv6 geldt de hash voor je /64-netwerk, wat één verbinding meestal krijgt). Die hash dient om spam af te remmen, om één open eiland per verbinding toe te staan, en voor blokkades: een host kan een bezoeker blokkeren, waarna die verbinding niet meer kan aankloppen bij dat eiland zolang het open is. Het zout wordt uiterlijk dertien uur na afloop van zijn dag gewist; daarna kan niemand, wij ook niet, een hash nog terugleiden naar een adres. Tellers tegen spam worden na een uur gewist, blokkades samen met het eiland.

Automatische chatcontrole. Voordat een chat- of aanklopbericht wordt opgeslagen, controleert de server het tegen woordenlijsten en patronen voor contactgegevens. Een bericht dat niet door de controle komt, wordt niet opgeslagen, en de tekst wordt nergens bewaard of gelogd. Wat wel bewaard wordt: het aantal tegengehouden berichten bij je verzoek, dat samen met het verzoek wordt gewist, en lopende totalen per soort, zonder tekst en zonder iets dat ze aan een persoon koppelt, om de lijsten te verbeteren. Stopt het bezoek van een verbinding op één dag drie keer, dan blijft de dagelijkse IP-hash 24 uur buiten Dodo Airlines en wordt daarna gewist. Er kijkt geen mens mee en er is geen profilering: de controle beslist alleen of één bericht wordt verstuurd. Welke woordenlijsten gelden, hangt af van de taal waarin je de pagina bekijkt en de taal die je browser als voorkeur doorgeeft; die instelling wordt alleen voor de controle gebruikt en niet bewaard. Een tegengehouden bericht blijft op je eigen scherm zichtbaar, gemarkeerd als niet verstuurd, tot je de pagina herlaadt; het bereikt de ander nooit.

Chatten met onbekenden. De site is voor volwassenen; wie jonger is, gebruikt hem onder toezicht van een ouder. Wie je hier tegenkomt ken je niet. Hou het bij het spel: deel je echte naam, leeftijd, woonplaats of gebruikersnamen van andere apps niet. Voelt iemand niet goed, ga dan weg en laat het ons weten.

Een probleem melden

Zie je iets schadelijks of illegaals in een eilandnaam, een notitie of een chat, mail dan naar support@kokoto.app met de eilandnaam en ongeveer wanneer. We bekijken elke melding en halen weg wat hier niet hoort; zo nodig kan het delen van eilanden helemaal uit. Mails die je stuurt bewaren we niet langer dan nodig om ze af te handelen.

Grondslag, verwerkers en je rechten

We verwerken deze gegevens op grond van ons gerechtvaardigd belang: de dienst leveren waar je om vraagt en die vrijhouden van spam en misbruik (artikel 6 lid 1 sub f AVG). Wat in je browser staat is nodig voor een functie die je gebruikt of een instelling die je koos. mijn.host verwerkt gegevens voor ons als hostingpartij, binnen de EU. Er wordt niets verkocht, gedeeld voor advertenties of gebruikt voor profilering.

Je hebt recht op inzage, correctie en verwijdering, op beperking van en bezwaar tegen de verwerking, en op overdraagbaarheid. Zonder accounts weten we niet wie je bent, dus geef mee wat helpt om het te vinden (eilandnaam, bijnaam, tijdstip); het meeste is sowieso binnen enkele uren weg. Je kunt ook een klacht indienen bij de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Fouten en vertalingen

Deze pagina is zorgvuldig geschreven, maar blijkt een deel ervan onjuist, onduidelijk of verouderd, dan raakt dat alleen dat deel; de rest blijft geldig, en wat er werkelijk met je gegevens gebeurt is wat telt, zoals hierboven naar ons beste weten beschreven. Laat het ons weten via legal@kokoto.app, dan passen we het aan. Deze pagina bestaat in het Engels en het Nederlands; als ze verschillen, gaat de Nederlandse versie voor. Wie de site gebruikt, gaat ook akkoord met de gebruiksvoorwaarden.
