Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Terms of use

Island Almanac is a free fan site run by Kokoto, a Dutch sole proprietor, based in Hilversum, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 42082146 ("we"). By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

Age

This site is meant for people aged 18 and over. If you are younger, you may only use it with the permission of a parent or guardian, who supervises your use and is responsible for it. By using the site you confirm that this is the case.

Free, as is, at your own risk

The site is free. There is nothing to buy, so there are no payments, refunds or compensation of any kind. It is offered as is and as available, without any promise or warranty: it may contain mistakes, be unavailable, change or stop at any time, without notice. You use it entirely at your own risk.

House rules

Dodo Airlines works because people are kind to each other. Wherever you are on the site:

  • Be friendly. No insults, bullying, threats, hate or sexual content, in names, notes or chat.
  • Keep it about the game. Never ask anyone for, or share, a real name, address, phone number, photos or usernames for other apps, and do not try to move a conversation somewhere else. Do not ask people how old they are, where they live, what school they go to or whether they are alone. Many players here are children.
  • No scams. Do not ask for tips you do not honour, promise items you do not have, or sell anything for real money. Never pretend to be a moderator, Nintendo or the site, and never ask anyone for a password, an account or a code of any kind.
  • The Dodo code stays where it is. The site shows your code to one visitor at a time, after you let them in. Never type a Dodo code into a chat or a note, and never ask anyone to send you one: nobody who runs this site will ever ask for it.
  • No spam or tricks. Do not flood the queue or chat, open islands you are not hosting, or try to get around limits, blocks or the site's security.

Automatic chat check

Chat messages, messages to everyone and knock messages are checked automatically before they are sent. The check looks for swearing, slurs, sexual content, telling someone to harm themselves, contact details such as phone numbers, email addresses, links, usernames for other apps, bank and card numbers and crypto wallets, Dodo codes and requests for them, and real-world money in any form (see below). A message that fails the check is not sent; the sender is told why, and nothing else happens for a first slip.

The check also looks at the course of a conversation, not only at one line: a personal question that would pass on its own is stopped when it is one of several, and something forbidden that is spread out over a few messages is recognised when the last piece arrives. It looks for questions about a person's age, where they live, their school or whether they are alone; for requests for photos; for secrecy ("don't tell your parents"); for anyone pretending to be a moderator, Nintendo or this site; for requests for passwords, accounts or codes; for fake giveaways; and for the same message sent over and over. To do this it reads only the messages already in that conversation, which are deleted with the island. With your visit it keeps that a warning of a certain kind was given, so that the next one counts, and the text of a message it stopped as a personal question, a scam or a request for money or payment details, so that a report can show what was said. Both go when the visit does; the text is never shown to the other person, and a person reads it only if a report is filed.

Island names, host and visitor names and the island note are checked too, and always at the strictest setting: they stand in the public list, where people read them without choosing that island. A name that fails the check is refused, and you are asked for another.

A host may allow everyday swearing on their own island. Their card then says so, and the list of islands has a filter to leave those out. Slurs, sexual content, telling someone to harm themselves and contact details are stopped on every island, whatever the host has chosen.

No money changes hands here. Bells, Nook Miles Tickets and anything else inside the game are yours to trade as you like. Real money is not: asking anyone for a payment, a gift card, a card number, a bank account or a crypto wallet is not allowed, and neither is any mention of real-world money, in any currency, symbol or code, or of cryptocurrency. Those messages are stopped. If someone asks you for money, do not pay, and tell us at support@kokoto.app.

Switch friend codes may be shared. A friend code does not expire and is not limited to one visit, so whoever has yours can reach you later, outside this site and outside anything we can see. You are reminded of that when you send one. Think before you do.

  • Visitors get a warning. Money talk, repeated messages, a Dodo code and a first run of personal questions are only stopped and explained; they do not count. After three stopped messages that do count in one visit, or at once for slurs, sexual content or telling someone to harm themselves, the visit ends and that connection cannot knock at that island again.
  • A connection whose visits end this way three times in one day cannot use Dodo Airlines for 24 hours.
  • Hosts' messages are checked the same way, but a host is never removed from their own island.
  • A warning does not carry over: each new visit starts without any. Removals count per day, and a day-long exclusion does not grow when it happens again.

The check is automatic and imperfect: it can miss something, and now and then it may stop an innocent message. It does not replace the host's block button or a report to support@kokoto.app. If you think a message was stopped by mistake, tell us at support@kokoto.app so we can improve the lists.

Nobody is watching

The check is a program. No person reads chats as they happen, and we cannot step into a conversation, take a message back or remove what has already been said while it is going on. Conversations disappear by themselves with the island, within about an hour of the gate closing, and we do not keep them. Do not wait for us: use the block button if you host, leave if you are visiting, and use the report button in the chat. A report keeps that conversation for us to read afterwards.

When the check stops someone for personal questions or for a scam, it tells the other person in that chat that a message to them was stopped, without repeating it, and the sender is told that it did so. Both are told that the conversation is being reported to us, and the person it was aimed at is given our address for reports, report@kokoto.app. If nobody reports it within about ten minutes, the site files the report itself, so that we do read that conversation afterwards. It does the same when it stops a request for money or payment details.

What we can do comes afterwards. On a report we can close an island, keep a connection out for a day, or switch island sharing off altogether, and every report and every wrongly stopped message goes into making the check better. That is what we promise: to keep improving the service, not that it catches everything.

When you host

  • Only share a Dodo code for an island you are hosting yourself, right now.
  • Describe your island honestly: what is on offer and what you ask in return.
  • Anyone you let in can pick up, dig up and buy what they like; the game has no per-visitor permissions. Put away what you want to keep, stay near your gate, and close it when you are done.

When you visit

  • Follow the host's rules and leave through the airport, not by closing the game.
  • Do not take, dig up or destroy what is not offered to you, and do not share the Dodo code with anyone else.
  • Give the tip you agreed to, or do not come.

Your content

You are responsible for what you write here. Island cards, including names and notes, are public; chats are between you and the host. We may close an island, block someone or switch island sharing off, without warning, when these terms are broken or to keep the site safe; we do that afterwards and on reports, not by watching. Report problems to support@kokoto.app.

The information

The almanac is compiled from public sources, but may be incomplete or wrong; the game itself is always right. Do not rely on it for anything that matters to you.

No liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kokoto is not liable for any damage or loss of any kind, direct or indirect, and you waive any claim against Kokoto arising from the site. This includes:

  • what other players do or say, on this site or on your island;
  • lost, taken or destroyed items, bells, Nook Miles Tickets, recipes or other things in the game, trades that go wrong, or tips that are not paid;
  • lost progress, for instance when a connection drops or someone leaves the wrong way;
  • mistakes in the information, or the site being unavailable;
  • abuse, harassment, scams or anything else another user does;
  • any other damage that follows from using, or not being able to use, the site.

Only where the law does not allow liability to be excluded does it remain, and then only as far as the law requires. Only let in people you trust with your island.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for how you use the site and for what you write and do, here and in the game. If someone makes a claim against Kokoto because of something you did, or because you broke these terms, you cover that claim and its costs.

Nintendo

This is not an official product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo. Animal Crossing and related names and images are trademarks of Nintendo. Follow Nintendo's own rules for online play as well.

Changes, law and the rest

These terms may change at any time; the date below shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. We may stop offering the site, or refuse or end anyone's use of it, at any time. If a court finds any part of these terms invalid, that part is limited to what the law does allow and the rest stays fully in force. Dutch law applies, and all disputes and claims about the site or these terms are handled exclusively by the competent court in the Netherlands. How we handle personal data is on the privacy page. Questions: legal@kokoto.app.

Mistakes and translations

If any part of these terms is invalid, unenforceable, unclear or contains a mistake, that affects only that part: it is read as closely as possible to what was meant, within what the law allows, and every other part stays fully valid. A typo, an omission or an outdated sentence never makes these terms as a whole void. Not enforcing a rule at one moment does not mean giving it up. These terms exist in English and Dutch; if the two differ, the Dutch version prevails.

Nederlands

  • wat andere spelers doen of zeggen, op deze site of op je eiland;
  • verloren, meegenomen of vernielde items, klingels, Nook-miles-bonnen, doe-het-zelfplannen of andere dingen in het spel, ruilhandel die misgaat, of fooien die niet worden betaald;
  • verloren voortgang, bijvoorbeeld als een verbinding wegvalt of iemand verkeerd vertrekt;
  • fouten in de informatie, of het niet bereikbaar zijn van de site;
  • misbruik, intimidatie, oplichting of wat een andere gebruiker verder doet;
